Auto Insurance
When taking traffic school, you are entering into an agreement with the court for them to dismiss your ticket as long as you complete the course by the due date. If the citation is dismissed, the court reports it to the DMV as a dismissed ticket, but it does not appear on your driving record. Your insurance company never knows that you got a ticket, and your insurance rates are not affected.
If it has been less than 18 months since your last ticket, you have to get special permission from the judge to allow you to take traffic school. If you complete traffic school according to the judge’s instructions, the second ticket will appear on your driving record as a dismissed ticket. Your insurance company will see that you got a ticket, and your insurance rates will likely be raised, but not as much as they would if you did not complete traffic school.
